Bass Legislation Leads to Marvin Gaye Post Office

The popular tunes of singer Marvin Gaye echoed throughout the dedication ceremony that added his name to the Dockweiler postal station in South L.A.

Thanks to legislation sponsored by U.S. Representative Karen Bass and passed into law by the U.S. Congress, the station at 3585 S. Vermont Ave. is now known as the Marvin Gaye Post Office, an action that pairs nicely with the Marvin Gaye stamp, which was issued in April.

10th District Women’s Committee Honors Community Leaders

The 10th District Women’s Steering Committee (WSC) honored four community leaders during their 41st annual Installation Luncheon on January 24.

More than 300 people celebrated the contributions of Pamela A. Bakewell, Karla Gordy Bristol, Theresa Price and Nolan Rollins, to the greater Los Angeles area. According to WSC President Connye L. Thomas, the honorees’ accomplishments reflected the organization’s theme, “Inspiring a Vision for Change.”

Tenth District Steering Committee Honors Community Leaders

The 10th Council District Women’s Steering Committee is hosting its 41st Annual Installation Luncheon on Sunday, January 24 in Los Angeles. The theme is “Inspiring a Vision for Change.” Many community leaders and elected officials will be in attendance to also recognize outstanding individuals for their contributions during the 2016 officers installation program. Honorees for the luncheon include Nolan Rollins, president and CEO of the Los Angeles Urban League; Theresa Price, founder and president of the National College Resources Foundation (aka Black College & Latino Expo); Karla Gordy Bristol, CEO of Bristol Entertainment, Vice President of the Fuller Gordy Foundation
