The third annual Platform Workshop for Christian Songwriters is set for Saturday, August 13, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., in the Trinity Building Choir Room at Faithful Central Bible Church –333 Florence Ave., in Inglewood. Bishop Kenneth C. Ulmer is the host pastor.
The event includes a songwriting workshop and sessions on the craft, ministry and business of music, writing and speaking along with networking opportunities. Also, participants can have their songs critiqued.
“I created The Platform to provide opportunities for Christian singers, songwriters, speakers and authors to develop their skills and get their voices heard,” said Carol Ross-Burnett, founder and workshop host. “Platform workshops and events are designed to provide the instruction that both aspiring and experienced Christian artists want and need.”
Christian songwriter and gospel singer Babbie Mason will be one of the instructors, noted Ross-Burnett, who added, “Babbie Mason has had a long and successful career as a Christian songwriter and gospel singer in full-time music ministry, and many well-known artists have recorded her songs, including Shirley Caesar, CeCe Winans and Helen Baylor. Babbie offers her own workshops in the Atlanta area and comes to the West Coast once a year for the Platform songwriting workshop.”
“I’m delighted to join my long-time friend and songwriting buddy, Carol Ross-Burnett, for each Platform Workshop,” said Mason, who also teaches songwriting at several colleges.
“I’ll share secrets of writing a great song and memorable lyrics, talk about defining the calling, and inform participants how to get their music heard on Christian radio.”
Other speakers who will present on achieving the dream and the business of music will join Babbie. A Q&A session on how to record/demo your song will be included.
