As we reflect on the great female athletes during Women’s History Month, we are reminded, sadly, of the gross pay inequities between men and women.  While top-tier NBA players like Lebron James will reportedly earn $128M for the 2023-2024 season, highest paid WNBA player, Jackie Young will earn $252,450.

Gwen Moore Legislative Reception Celebrates Black Political and Civil Leadership

On April 19, the California African American Chamber of Commerce (CALAACC) hosted the “Honorable Gwen Moore California Legislative Reception.”  The event celebrated the former California State Assemblymember with fond memories shared by colleagues, family, and friends. Moore, who passed away in August 2020, served in the California State Assembly from 1978 until 1994.

Many opponents of the original Proposition 13 have never given up.   The same groups that fought the ballot measure more than four decades ago when 65 percent of the state’s electorate passed it have repeatedly tried to destroy the measure’s important property tax protections.   When Prop. 13 was on the ballot in 1978 I opposed it, but the voters approved it.  As chair of the Assembly Revenue and Taxation Committee, I had a responsibility for the legislative implementation of Prop. 13 to make it work.   However, in the decades following Prop. 13’s implementation, I’ve come to recognize
