HAROLD C. WILLIAMS ELECTED WEST BASIN BOARD PRESIDENT

The West Basin Municipal Water District board of directors elected Harold C. Williams, P.E., MSCE to serve as president during its annual board re-organization and meeting in January.

As president, Williams will facilitate the appointment of committees and assignment of representatives to affiliate organizations, and shall have the primary responsibility for interpreting the policies, programs and needs of the District to the public.

West Basin Director Gloria D. Gray Re-Elected As Metropolitan Board Chairwoman

Following a voice vote at the October Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD) Board of Directors meeting, West Basin Municipal Water District (West Basin) President Gloria D. Gray was re-elected by acclamation to serve as chairwoman of the MWD board for another two-year term. Gray, the first African-American woman to hold the position in Metropolitan’s history, will continue to serve the regional agency’s board and stakeholders.

DOMINGUEZ TECHNOLOGY CENTER RECOGNIZED FOR RECYCLED WATER INNOVATION

West Basin, a provider of drinking and recycled water supplies for nearly 1 million people in coastal Los Angeles County, nominated Dominguez Technology Center for the Recycled Water Customer of the Year Award. The award recognizes innovative organizations who have advanced the use and acceptance of recycled water. The annual award is given out by WateReuse California. West Basin Board Vice President, Harold C. Williams, accepted this year’s award on behalf of all the project partners.

CHANGE & SAVE WATER CONSERVATION PROGRAM SERVES MORE THAN 300 FAMILIES DURING COVID-19 SHUTDOWN

In February, West Basin Municipal Water District launched Change & Save, a water conservation program designed to assist communities in West Basin’s service area that have historically lower participation rates in water conservation programs. To date, the Change & Save program has served more than 300 households in Inglewood, Hawthorne, Lawndale, Gardena, Carson, and Lennox.

West Basin Launches New Program to Provide Rebates and Free Water Saving Devices to Eligible Residents

West Basin Municipal Water District (West Basin) announced the launch of its Change & Save program, a water savings device and rebate program designed to assist communities in West Basin’s service area that have historically lower water conservation program participation rates. The new program is aimed at helping participants reduce water consumption and save money.

The City of Inglewood partnered with Clippers Arena Inglewood, Consolidated Disposal Service (A Republic Service Company), West Basin Municipal Water District and 102.3 FM, RadioFree KJLH for the annual Earth Day Music Festival, Saturday, April 20, 2019, on the South Lawn of City Hall.

Rebates Now Doubled for Popular Turf Replacement Program that Promotes Outdoor Water Savings

As of April 1, the popular turf replacement rebate from the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California has been doubled from $1 to $2 per square foot of lawn removed. As a member agency of Metropolitan, the West Basin Municipal Water District qualifies for this program and encourages residents and businesses within its service area to apply for the increased rebate atwww.bewaterwise.com where up to $50 million in applications will be accepted annually.
