West Angeles CDC Holds 16th Toy Giveaway

Hundreds of families and children attended the 16th annual Toy Giveaway sponsored by West Angeles Community Development Corporation on Dec. 19. The nonprofit organization partnered with Sentinel Peak Resources, an oil company in Inglewood, to provide toys, groceries and other assistance, said Dr. Belinda Allen, WACDC executive director. The mission of the West Angeles CDC is to increase social and economic justice, demonstrate compassion and alleviate poverty as a tangible expression of the Kingdom of God, through the vehicle of community development.  

FFFN’s “Food, Facts and Film” Highlight Foster Care System

Faith Foster Families Network will host “Food, Facts and Film” on Oct. 5, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Holman United Methodist Church, 3320 W. Adams Blvd., in Los Angeles. According to Nancy Harris, FFFN executive director, the free event will focus on enlightening the community about foster care and the child welfare system. In addition to food stations and information, the program will feature a screening of the HBO documentary, “Foster.”  Following the screening, a panel discussion will take place that includes two of the main individuals in the film. The producer is scheduled to participate as well.

U.S. Bank Honors West Angeles CDC Executive Director

Dr. Belinda Allen, executive director of West Angeles Community Development Corporation, is being honored as part of the Black History Month observance sponsored by U.S. Bank. “Celebrating Black History Month is an opportunity for us to celebrate the leaders in our communities who we partner with to make a tangible difference,” said Greg Cunningham, vice president, diversity and inclusion for U.S. Bank. The other honorees Jackie Taylor, founder and CEO of Black Ensemble Theater in Chicago; Dr. Eve M. Hall, president of the Milwaukee Urban League; and Linda Harris, senior vice president of the Urban League of Metro St. Louis.

West Angeles CDC Conducts Annual Toy Giveaway

Nearly 300 families and children came out for the 15th annual Toy Giveaway sponsored by West Angeles Community Development Corporation on Dec. 20. The nonprofit organization partnered with Sentinel Peak Resources, a new oil company in Inglewood, to provide much needed toys, groceries and other assistance. “Our annual toy drive has provided toys to children in low income families totaling over $1 million dollars of support to the South Los Angeles community,” said Dr. Belinda Allen, WACDC executive director. “We are motivated to do this by the families we serve. South L.A. Churches Unite to Aid Foster Families and Youth

Town hall set for Oct. 16 at Center of Hope Church in Inglewood  Six churches in the greater South Los Angeles area recently partnered to create the Faith Foster Families Network to offer another level of support to parents and youth involved in the foster care system. Holman CDC of Holman United Methodist Church, the Biddy Mason Charitable Foundation of First AME Church, the West Angeles CDC of West Angeles Church of God in Christ all in Los Angeles, along with the Center of Hope in Inglewood, the City of Refuge in Gardena and Crossroads United Methodist Church in Compton

Hundreds Enjoy Health and Financial Resources at WACDC FAITH Expo

More than 300+ people converged at the exhibit hall behind West Angeles Cathedral for the Financial Awareness Investing in Total Health (FAITH) Expo on July 14. Sponsored by the West Angeles Community Development Corporation (WACDC), the event connected South L.A. residents with 50 agencies offering financial services, health and fitness information, wealth building strategies, and asset protection products.
