In the heart of the Crenshaw District, in South L.A., a community food distribution drive through was held at the Los Angeles Sentinel on Saturday, July 18, 2020 from 9M – Noon, to provide groceries for community members experiencing economic hardship due  with the COVID-19 pandemic.  Bakewell Media, Los Angeles Sentinel, Mothers In Action, AFGE, Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, Labor Community Services, the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, Miguel Contreras Foundation, Teamsters National Black Caucus, Councilmember Herb Wesson of CD 10 and County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas of the 2nd District collaborated to successfully distribute groceries to 2,500 families in Los Angeles and surrounding areas.  ... read more »

The Black Hollywood Education and Resource Center (BHERC) “Operation Love” volunteer team members welcomed a steady flow of donors Sunday, May 24  from 1:00 to 3:00PM.  Their goal for this day, was to gather 100 blankets that they would in turn distribute to the homeless the following week.  What they could not anticipate, was the outpour and steady march of vehicles and face masked pedestrians that pushed that goal to an unbelievable 1121 blankets. The Black Hollywood Education and Resource Center (BHERC) began its “Operation Love” activities in the wee hours of Sunday, May 10.  Their goal for this day, one of the most celebrated days of the calendar year across the globe, was to celebrate Mother’s Day with the personal delivery of 500 baskets of essential personal and gift items with dinner to Mother’s who have been in isolation due to the pandemic.  Mothers who are seniors, living in assisted living facilities and/or living in shelters and some who are homeless.  This national effort took place on both the West and East coast where an additional 500 Washington, D.C. residents received services. ... read more »
