L.A. High sprinter Zsateau Bouyer talks about her involvement with clubs on campus
Los Angeles high school sophomore Zsateau Bouyer has a passion for sprinting, she is ready to improve the school’s track program with her dedication. When the Romans track and field team needed more participants, she urged schoolmates to compete with her.
Norco junior Menelik Israel has a passion for engineering to go along with his baseball talents. During his sophomore year, Israel committed to Duke with an academic and athletic scholarship.
Initially, senior Dominique Allen intended to only play basketball for Los Angeles High School. During her years there, she decided to compete in track and field and volleyball and developed a fondness for them.
When Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972 was passed, academic institutions had to ensure equality in the federal funding of activities for men and women. Prior to that, women’s athletic activities go little to no funding.
Dorsey junior Alexis Lewis is ready to run, whether it’s for the Donnas girl’s basketball team or for track and field and cross-country competitions.
Major news stories of the year 2019
The 34-year-old Kenyan completed the 42.195 kilometers (26.2 miles) in 1 hour, 59 minutes, 40.2 seconds at the INEOS 1:59 Challenge, an event set up for the attempt.
Track runner Mecca Muhammad of the Pacific Coast Shockwaves won big at the 2019 Junior Olympics in Sacramento. She earned three championship medals after coming in first place in the 800m, the 4x800m, and the 4x400m in the 11-12 division. The 800m was the biggest challenge for Muhammad, one of her competitors outran her once before.
Senior track and field standout Ameer Muhammad helped the Crenshaw boys track and field team qualify for the State championship. He ran a leg for the 4×100 relay squad who had been successful throughout track season. Muhammad competed in the 100m dash, the 200m dash, and the 4x100m during the CIF State championship.
Junior sprinter Ryan Lacefield has the passion and perseverance to maintain the winning legacy that the Carson High School girls track and field team is known for. Her efforts would help the Colts win their 6th consecutive City Section Championship.
Tara Moore is a passionate soccer player and is a leader at LACES Middle School. With a 4.0 GPA, she was valedictorian of her class and spoke at her eighth-grade graduation this month. Moore competes in four different soccer teams, including LACES Beyond the Bell Soccer team and on her AYSO United LA Club Team in South Los Angeles. The players on her club team have been playing together since Moore was 10 years old. Her club team went undefeated in the AYSO and become a club team. “They started us at a ranking called Silver League, we were playing
Carson Colts sophomore Jason Bell makes the Colts frosh/soft track and field team a competitive force. His talents led him to compete and excel at the City Section championships.
For the sixth consecutive year, the Carson Colts girls track team won the City Section title on Friday. The team scored 130 points, 76 more points than second place winner Granada Hills. The Palisades boys team snapped the Dorsey Don’s three-year Championship streak. Carson reigned over the sprinting events with junior Ryan Lacefield pacing the 200m and the 400m. The Colts finished the 4x100m in first place in 48.61s and came in second in the 4x400m in 4:03.23. “We just want to continue the legacy of our previous track stars and we want to be on top just like them,”
