King/Drew senior Jahmir Torres helped the Golden Eagles football team win their first-ever City Section championship in December. Torres also showed skill in track and field and basketball.
Prior to his senior year at King/Drew, Torres lived in Maryland. Transferring sidelined him early in the season per CIF rules.
Those weeks were a challenging time for Torres but he found motivation by talking to God and his teammates. Seeing their excitement for the game encouraged him through those times.
He ultimately became a quintessential piece to the Golden Eagle offense. As a wide receiver, Torres made 34 receptions for 800 yards and 11 touchdowns. As a running back, Torres made 89 rushes for 1,110 yards and nine touchdowns.

During the Division I City Section football championship against the Palisades Dolphins, Torres made 22 carries for 219 yards and three touchdowns along with six catches for 92 yards and two touchdowns. Torres credited the support of his teammates in the win.
“It means a lot, especially doing it with the guys I love,” Torres said. “They just welcomed me in and I loved it ever since. It just means a lot to see these guys been here two years working for it and now, they finally got it.”
He competed on the 4×100 relay team at Edgewood high school in Maryland. The team won in the State Championship meet.
“I noticed that everybody wanted the same goal, we all knew the talent that we had and we all knew the finish line that we had to get to,” Torres said. “Every day, every practice, we worked for it.”
Torres understands that strong academics and athletics can provide opportunities to student athletes.
“I notice now how big it is and how important it should be taken from the jump and I take it seriously now,” Torres said. “The student part is definitely number-one and athlete is just the plus part.”
Through it all, Torres gained the motivation to be a stand-out student athlete from his younger brothers. His previous years in high school taught him to be dedicated and consistently ready and willing to work.
