Slauson and Co. Launches Inaugural Fund for Untapped, Innovative Founders

Slauson & Co.​, a Los Angeles-based venture capital firm driven by intentional inclusion, today announced the launch of its early-stage venture capital fund. The firm has received backing from PayPal, which recently made a big commitment toward racial equity. Ashton Kutcher, will.i.am, True Capital Management and Alpaca VC are also early supporters, along with veteran technology investor Ron Conway who will advise Slauson’s founding partners.

COMMUNITY BUILD, INC. ANNOUNCES TARA TAYLOR AS INTERIM CHIEF OPERATIONS OFFICER

Taylor will be in charge of Community Build’s daily operations, including managing a staff of 68 in two separate locations, the administrative offices in Leimert Park and the Youth and Community Center.  She will be responsible for ensuring each department and individual employee has the resources and support needed to operate CBI’s services and programs as well as CBI’s hundreds of client.  In addition, Taylor will also work to define the role and responsibilities for the permanent chief operations officer position.

ALL IS NOT WELL IN WATTS

Councilman Joe Buscaino recently replied to a series of articles by the undersigned setting forth facts demonstrating that Watts is and has been a politically neglected appendage of Los Angeles. Mr. Buscaino takes issue with that contention and responds that Watts has not been neglected and cites several recent projects to support his argument. At the outset, we need to express appreciation for Mr. Buscaino’s efforts for the people of his district and his willingness to debate the larger political issues relating to Watts in particular, and the city generally. Healthy debate always leads to positive results. That said, let us take a closer look at Watts.

LA City Councilmember Curren Price Partners With GUARDaHEART To Offer No-Cost COVID-19 Antibody Testing To The South LA Community

Los Angeles City Councilmember Curren Price, who represents the 9th District, partners with GUARDaHEART Foundation to offer no-cost COVID-19 antibody testing to the South LA community and the surrounding areas. The COVID-19 SARS-CoV-2 serology antibody tests are covered under the CARES Act and will be available to the community with or without insurance starting on Tuesday, October 13 through Thursday, October 15 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Councilmember Price’s District Office (4301 S. Central Ave.)

South Coast AQMD Governing Board Selects South Los Angeles for AB 617 Program to Accelerate Air Pollution Reduction in Community

Last week, the South Coast Air Quality Management District’s (South Coast AQMD) Governing Board approved a recommendation to add the South Los Angeles community to the Assembly Bill 617 (AB 617) program. AB 617 requires the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and local air districts to reduce emissions in communities disproportionately impacted by air pollution. The Governing Board also directed staff to pursue additional funding to help support emissions reduction efforts in this community.
