LA City Councilmember Curren Price Partners With GUARDaHEART To Offer No-Cost COVID-19 Antibody Testing To The South LA Community

Los Angeles City Councilmember Curren Price, who represents the 9th District, partners with GUARDaHEART Foundation to offer no-cost COVID-19 antibody testing to the South LA community and the surrounding areas. The COVID-19 SARS-CoV-2 serology antibody tests are covered under the CARES Act and will be available to the community with or without insurance starting on Tuesday, October 13 through Thursday, October 15 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Councilmember Price’s District Office (4301 S. Central Ave.)

Largest U.S. Planning Department Stewards Its First Chief Equity Officer Appointment

Appointed by the Director of Planning Vince Bertoni in response to Mayor Eric Garcetti’s Executive Order No. 27on Racial Equity in City Government, Roble has a robust history of serving various community groups around Los Angeles. His experience includes managing visions for South, Southeast and West Adams-Baldwin Hills-Leimert communities. Part of his work helped address racial injustice, equity, as well as economic disinvestment. His leadership in over 20 projects has helped bolster affordable housing and sustainable communities. Most recently, he oversaw projects of significant importance to the South L.A. community, including the redevelopment of Jordan Downs from 700 units of public housing into a 1,073 unit, mixed-use, mix-income neighborhood with a full-service grocery store, commercial and community services and more than five acres of parks and open space.  

Wesson, City of Los Angeles Declare Racism a Public Health Crisis

The Los Angeles City Council has voted to approved a resolution to declare racism a public health crisis in the city. The resolution, put forward by Councilmembers Herb Wesson, Curren Price, and Marqueece Harris-Dawson, also calls on City of Los Angeles departments to review their internal policies and procedures.

Public health concerns have taken a backseat in conversations about reopening our economy and returning to what we fondly remember as “normal life”. Memorial Day historically signals the unofficial start of summer and because COVID-19 cases were on the decline, many hoped it would also mark the beginning of a return to normalcy. Even before the Governor and Mayor began lifting restrictions, some residents dismissed the stay at home orders. On Memorial Day weekend, people flocked to beaches and parks in droves, hosted gatherings with more than ten people in attendance, and did so without wearing protective face masks.
