Today’s vote is a betrayal of the Senate’s constitutional duty to advise and consent. The Urban League Movement opposed this nomination because of his extremist positions on civil rights, workers rights, and social justice. A complete vetting of his background was impeded by the White House, which withheld the vast majority of pertinent records.

Many Blacks, perhaps most, initially considered challenging Obama’s decisions sacrilegious, and   more than a few continued to regard him as an icon to be neither properly                                           critiqued nor criticized. Although   increasingly concerned with his decisions, Blacks also needed to be concerned about ineffective Black leadership in general, especially in light of the daunting challenges in the 21st century.

Melissa Harris-Perry won’t be back for her MSNBC show

Melissa Harris-Perry and MSNBC are going their separate ways. “Farewell #Nerdland,” she tweeted on Sunday, referring to the probing discussions on her weekend show. “Inviting diverse new voices to table was a privilege. Grateful for years of support & criticism.” The network says MSNBC and Harris-Perry are parting ways. She was scheduled to appear this Saturday and Sunday in the regular two-hour slot from 10 a.m. to noon. But Harris-Perry announced several days ago that she would stay away — in response to MSNBC’s pre-emption of her program for much of February for coverage of presidential politics.
