Student Athlete of the Week: Mecca Muhammad

Track runner Mecca Muhammad of the Pacific Coast Shockwaves won big at the 2019 Junior Olympics in Sacramento. She earned three championship medals after coming in first place in the 800m, the 4x800m, and the 4x400m in the 11-12 division. The 800m was the biggest challenge for Muhammad, one of her competitors outran her once before.

NBA Legend Abdul-Jabbar Talks Auction to Help Kids in STEM

All the mementos that served to recognize the Jabbar’s many accomplishments – the championship rings, MVP and All-Star trophies and other rare items from the legend – are available to the public in an auction that ends on Saturday, March 2. And, it’s all to benefit Jabbar’s Skyhook Foundation, whose mission he said is to give kids a shot that can’t be blocked.

Hampton University to Collaborate with Nigerian Scientists on Water Quality Research

The Hampton University Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry hosted professors from Nigerian universities on November 20, who collaborated with HU professors on water quality research. Last week, a team of scientists from two Nigerian Universities were visiting the U.S. to tour several selected Water Quality Research and Management Laboratories. The visit is in connection with the Global Innovation Imperatives program, an initiative of the American Chemical Society, to foster creative solutions to imperatives of global significance. Water Resources is one of three key imperatives. HU’s Water Quality Research Laboratory, which is located in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry, was
