Watching little children play is such a joy. I have two beautiful little grandchildren and the smiles and laughter that so innocently flow from their faces brings me such happiness. Children have an innocence about them; it makes one wonder, what makes that end?

Los Angeles City Mayor Garcetti brought awareness to the Civil and Human Rights Department, introducing their first Executive Director, Capri Maddox. This department will magnify the social issues that live among the city and reflect on the solutions. The Los Angeles City Mayor also announced to the panelist of Justice Matters on June 4, together with city council a commitment was made to shift funding that will address structural black racism.
In this day and age, society has built a system and a niche economy within the world of social media. One that produces everyday influencers and brings everyone closer to their favorite celebrities. This same structure is now a change agent in the fight for Black Lives.
Throughout the year’s social media has put a voice to the unheard bringing to light case after case of police brutality. Since the death of Trayvon Martin, there hasn’t been a year without multiple horrific stories and videos of a Black life being taken. With the help of celebrities and the millions of users on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, the names of the thousands and counting Black victims live on. However, justice is yet to be served in its totality.

Obama continues to use his platform to seek a solution to the imbalance in the police force structure on a national scale, but also within local government. President Barack along with his administration is orchestrating a commit to action for all mayors, city councils, and police oversight bodies to address police use of force.
