Pride Events in Los Angeles: Celebrating Gender Variance and Sexual Diversity

Pride is a moment of acknowledgment and celebration of the continual progression in overcoming hardship and discrimination in the LGBTQIA+ community. Pride also looks to honor a significant movement that happened at the Stonewall Inn that led to a social awakening, in June of 1969. Here are some Pride events that are happening during the celebration of Pride month:

Harris-Dawson, Wesson to Host 4th Annual South LA Pride Celebration

After a two-year hiatus, South LA Pride is set to make its return on July 1. Co-hosted by Los Angeles Councilmembers Marqueece Harris-Dawson and Herb Wesson, South LA Pride will host a free outdoor community picnic featuring a live DJ, games, drag performances, food vendors, and live performances from popular LA-based BIPOC queer entertainers.   A free family-friendly event, South LA Pride, is scheduled to kick off the Independence Day weekend on Friday, July 1, from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Norman O. LA Pride Set to Return June 12

The LA Pride Parade, canceled for the past two years, is returning and taking a new route in the community where the movement started.

Power and Pride to the People!

June has become the traditional month for Pride celebrations in honor of the gay and transgender people, including Black and brown gay liberation and transgender rights activists like Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera, who fought back against harassment and abusive policing in June 1969.
