Pride is a moment of acknowledgment and celebration of the continual progression in overcoming hardship and discrimination in the LGBTQIA+ community. Pride also looks to honor a significant movement that happened at the Stonewall Inn that led to a social awakening, in June of 1969.
In Los Angeles, Pride is traditionally commemorated with a variety of events and activities that promote LGBTQ+ visibility, rights and community building. The L.A. Pride Parade, hosted in West Hollywood, is one of the most popular events, featuring colorful floats, entertainment and marchers that celebrate diversity.
The L.A. Pride Festival often has live music, food vendors, art exhibitions, and informative booths from LGBTQ+ organizations. Many local bars, clubs, and restaurants offer Pride-themed events and celebrations. In addition, panel talks, film screenings, and other cultural activities are frequently held throughout the city to celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride. Here are some Pride events that are happening during the celebration of Pride month:
Pride at the Promenade – June 22
Everyone including pets are welcome to soak up live music and entertainment, art, free giveaways, games and family-friendly activities at Pride at the Promenade. Local service providers and community groups will be present along the Promenade, providing support and resources to the LGBTQ+ community. This free block party event will be happening between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., with street parking available.
Proud Days Market – June 22-23
To commemorate Pride Month, The Bloc and DTLA Proud will host Proud Days Market on Saturday and Sunday, June 22-23, from noon to 6 p.m. Visit the weekend market and support LGBTQ+ small businesses. The DTLA Proud A+R=T Community Center, located at The Bloc in Downtown LA, is dedicated to “accessibility and representation in order to help our community thrive!” The facility includes an art gallery, a queer-positive marketplace, a community room, and a co-working area, as well as activities and programs for all ages, workshops, pop-up retail space, and event venues. The DTLA Proud A+R=T Community Center offers validated $15 self-parking to market attendees.
2024 South L.A. Pride – July 13
South LA Pride is South Los Angeles’ official LGBTQ+ pride ceremony. It’s described as a lively, energetic community-driven event. South LA Pride was first held in 2017 at Leimert Park, under the leadership of Los Angeles City Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson. This year it will be held at the Michelle & Barack Obama Sports Complex, the event starts at noon. There will be a picnic, shopping, live entertainment and different areas for dancing and connection. It is free to attend, with on-site parking available
