Political Cartoonist Changing the World One Illustration at a Time

  This June, the Sentinel is putting the spotlight on Black men, highlighting their life and how they make a difference in the world. David G. Brown is an award-winning artist, who’s editorial cartoons have been featured in the Sentinel for the last 20 years. A gifted designer, photographer and illustrator, David’s work and merits are impressive. He grew up in West Atco, a small town in South Jersey outside of Atlantic City. David earned his Bachelor’s degree at Stockton University where he has received the Arts and Humanities Professional Achievement Award in 2011 and recently, the Alumni Impact Award

Janet Rollé Named CEO and Executive Director of American Ballet Theatre

The American Ballet Theatre announced that Janet Rollé will become the new CEO and Executive Director at American Ballet Theatre. Her appointment which was announced by the Board Chariman Andrew Barth will become effective January 3, 2022. Rollé joins ABT from Parkwood Entertainment, having served as General Manager since 2016.

NAMAD Honors James Farmer with Lifetime Achievement Award

“I can remember at a NAMAD banquet there were two tables, maybe three at a conference of minority dealers,” he said. “But I watched it grow to the level that it is today with many and, to be in a position within General Motors and to assist the industry and see it grow, has been gratifying,” he said.

Student Athlete of the Week: Robert Ballard

California State University junior outfielder Robert Ballard fell in love with baseball at an early age. That love led him to compete at the collegiate level. He mentions how his father played a major role in helping him become a baseball player.

Student Athlete of the Week: Aeryn Owens

Junior outside hitter Aeryn Owens is an elite competitor not only at Cal State Northridge but also in the Big West Conference. As a sophomore, Owens has earned All-Big West First Team honors. Currently, Owens averages 5.06 points, 4.56 kills, and 2.44 digs per set. With 401 kills this season, she is the leader of kills on the team and the Big West as of October 29. Her kills per set average rank her third in the Big West. In digs, Owens comes in second for the Matadors with 215. She scored a season-high of 33.5 points and five blocks

Aaron Walton named Advertising Executive of the Year

The Marketing to African Americans with Excellence (MAAX) Awards recently named Walton Isaacson Co-Founder Aaron Walton 2015 Advertising Executive of the Year at the 16th Annual Marketing to African Americans with Excellence (MAAX) Summit . The event was hosted by Target Market News at the Hyatt Gold Coast Hotel in downtown Chicago. On accepting the award Walton noted, “Marketing to the Black community is a responsibility that the diverse and fiercely talented men and women at Walton Isaacson take seriously.
