Chris Paul and State Farm Assist the Brotherhood Crusade

NBA All-Star and Clippers point guard Chris Paul partnered with insurance group State Farm to launch the “Exist to Assist” community outreach program on Tuesday, Sept. 22. The Brotherhood Crusade was the first stop of the program, where Paul met and talked to youth benefitting from the organization.

Fall TV set to feature proactive, thoughtful Black programming

This fall’s television lineup is bringing much more color to the small screen.

ABC’s runaway hit Black-ish premiered its second season on September 23, where it tackled the controversial use of the N-word. In the episode, the family’s youngest son, Jack’s use of the word sets of a series of panicked reactions from the family and community members alike.

STARQUEST: BE THE NEXT STAR!!!

StarQuest Auditions are set to kickoff at the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza on the Macy’s Bridge Saturday, Sept. 26, from 10am-6pm and Sunday, Sept. 27, from 1pm-5pm. The local contest turns four this year and continues to be a hub of talent for the South L.A. area. Finalists who make it past the initial auditions go on to perform on the TOS StarQuest Stage and perform for TOS Nation, which stands now over 350,000 people.

Low Performing Schools get $3 million from Clipper Foundation

Some of the city’s lowest-performing schools will be getting some extra help, thanks to a $3 million gift from the Los Angeles Clippers Foundation and a year-long volunteer commitment from City Year Los Angeles. Los Angeles Unified School District Board President Steve Zimmer and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti were among hundreds of volunteers who gathered on September 11 at L.A. Live to begin the initiative and celebrate the largest donation ever made by the Clippers Foundation.
