IMW Wins $887K Against Pasadena Unified School District

Another victory for prominent Los Angeles law firm Ivie, McNeil, Wyatt, Purcell & Diggs (IMW) came recently in a case against Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD).  The firm obtained a jury verdict of more than $887,000 against PUSD on September 11, 2019, after a one-week trial in Van Nuys. The jurors voted 11-1 in favor of the plaintiff, who had been a 14-year old Pasadena High School student when she was pressured into consensual sex with another student by the school’s security guard.

Bullied Employee Collects $1.58 Million From UC Regents

Former UCLA employee Nicole Birden said she feels “good about her victory” now that UC regents have been ordered to pay her $1.58 million, as compensation for her experience in what she and her attorney James DeSimone are calling a hostile and racist work environment. Birden, who is African American, said she was constantly bullied and called names including the N word during her work as a phlebotomist for UCLA. She was eventually terminated, she said, without ever having been written up or subject to any other disciplinary action.

City Sues FAA Over LAX Flight Plans

Accusing the FAA of persistently failing to address the negative impacts of overflights of aircraft headed to LAX, L.A. City Attorney Mike Feuer announced today he is suing the agency, challenging recent changes affecting incoming aircraft flying over mid-City and central Los Angeles. “The FAA’s changes allegedly were done without proper environmental review or public input and represent the latest example of FAA’s persistent failure to address noise and other negative impacts from aircraft overflights in those areas,” Feuer said in a statement. Harris, Colleagues Demand McDonald’s Improve Sexual Harassment Policies at Locations Across the Country

U.S. Senators Kamala D. Harris (D-CA), Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Bernie Sanders (I-VT), and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) on Tuesday called on McDonald’s to improve its protections against sexual harassment at locations across the country and do more to address allegations of workplace harassment, abuse and retaliation suffered by McDonald’s workers. In a letter to McDonald’s CEO Steve Easterbrook, the Senators emphasized how the updated company policies McDonald’s recently announced are insufficient if franchisees – who own the vast majority of McDonald’s locations – are not required to implement and enforce them.
