Dr. Jerry P. Abraham, a steadfast advocate for equitable access to public health and healthcare delivery, was installed as the 152nd president of the Los Angeles County Medical Association (LACMA) on August 18, at The Langham Huntington in Pasadena.
The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) presents Afro-Atlantic Histories, an exhibition that charts the transatlantic slave trade and its legacies in the African diaspora.
Los Angeles County Museum of Art will open “The Obama Portraits Tour” and “Black American Portraits” on November 7. The exhibits feature the “Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama” painting as created by Amy Sherald, the “Barack Obama” artwork as visualized by Kehinde Wiley and two centuries of Kehinde Wiley.

The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, currently under construction in Los Angeles’s Exposition Park, is thrilled to announce its recent acquisition of the Separate Cinema Archive, which documents African American cinema history from 1904 to 2019. Encompassing more than 37,000 rare items, the archive includes a major selection of original film posters, lobby cards, film stills, publicity material, scripts, an extensive reference library, and more.

Dr. Maya Angelou Community High School was the epicenter of creativity and expression recently thanks to a special project.
The project, slated for completion in Fall 2020, includes a 20,000-square foot state-of-the-art community events center.
The Eli and Edythe Broad Stage in Santa Monica presents the return of The Reverend Shawn Amos for A Night in Harlem on Friday, February 1 at 8:00pm. In celebration of African American History Month, blackbox curator, Amos, returns to the stage for an evening of songs and storytelling — presenting songs from his album, Harlem, for the first time in ten years. The American roots song cycle tells the story of 1920s black Americans’ migration from the south to Harlem. Amos’ album was inspired by the artists, songs and legacy of the Harlem Renaissance.

Omar Offendum is a Syrian-American rapper and poet living in Los Angeles. Known for blending hip-hop and Arabic poetry, he has lectured at a number of museums, educational and cultural institutions including The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, LACMA, Arab American National Museum, Poets House, Qatar Foundation International and the Nobel Peace Prize Forum. A graduate of the University of Virginia’s School of Architecture, he has helped raise millions of dollars for various humanitarian relief groups and has been able to carve a distinct path for himself as a thoughtful entertainer and activist able to speak to a multitude of relevant issues over the course of his decade-long career.
