The Evolution of Bakewell Media’s Taste of Soul Festival

For 14 years, Los Angeles has enjoyed the annual Taste of Soul Family Food Festival on Crenshaw Blvd. The day-long festival presented by Bakewell Media boasts over 350,000 visitors just last year alone. Taste of Soul has become an institution in the Crenshaw community and draws people from L.A. and beyond, coming to enjoy live music and entertainment on more than five stages, delicious food from hundreds of vendors and shopping – including blocks and blocks of art, jewelry, clothing, beauty products as well as a plethora of free community services. The festival is family-friendly and known for being one of the largest and safest events in Southern California. Originally founded by Bakewell Media CEO Danny J. Bakewell, Sr. in 2005, Taste of Soul has grown exponentially over the years, and Mr. Bakewell says he can’t believe it’s been 14 years since its beginning.

Calling All Audubon Middle School Alumni

On Saturday, October 5, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., Audubon Middle School and Gifted Magnet will celebrate 90 years of educating students in the Leimert Park and surrounding communities with celebrity Audubon alumni such as Brandon Mebane of the L.A. Chargers, L.A. Councilman Curren Price, Arron Arnell “Bobo” Johnson of KJLH radio and more.

Big Changes at 102.3 Radio Free KJLH

  Facebook has been a blaze for Los Angeles users as news began to come out over the past several days regarding several fixtures of the KJLH brand that have been laid off. Greg Johnson a longtime KJLH employee and community jewel was one of the causalities. Big Pee Wee along with other employees were let go as well. Tammi Mac announced that Don Amiche would not be returning to the Mac and Amiche show on Tuesday August 8. It is unclear if she will return or for how long. Don Amiche posted a video explaining why he would not be returning

Local Radio Personality Cliff Winston Passes

Famed L.A. radio personality Cliff Winston died this week of an apparent heart attack, it was reported. Winston served as a funny man for KKBT The Beat in the 90s and  subsequently program director for KJLH. No details were reported as of press time of any illness Winston may have had.
