Dorothy Cobb Wheeler, Advocate for Others, Passes Away

A life dedicated to faith, family and community has ended for longtime Los Angeles resident Dorothy Cobb Wheeler, who passed away on May 27 at the age of 77. Inspired by her love for God and concern for all people, Dorothy devoted her first career to assisting residents as part of the LAPD Wilshire and Pacific Division’s Community Relations Office. Following her retirement, she attended law school at age 58 and became an attorney specializing in employment discrimination and working pro bono for faith-based and senior citizens groups. Holman UMC Hosts ‘WOMEN RISING!’

Holman United Methodist Church will host “Women Rising: Organizing Power for the Advancement and Achievement of Racial Justice, Gender Equality and Economic Equity” on Saturday, March 31, at 9 a.m., on its campus located at 3320 W. Adams Blvd., in Los Angeles. According to Pastor Kelvin Sauls, the purpose of the free event is women empowerment and the goal is to educate, promote, and uplift all women of Los Angeles. “This 2018 Women Rising event is a platform to provide women with inspiration, motivation, validation, and information related to women’s issues. Women will learn about health and wellness, how to
