Congresswoman Maxine Waters Attends Behavioral Health Services Community Fair in Gardena

Congresswoman Maxine Waters (CA-43) joined Behavioral Health Services, Inc. (BHS) at the 7th Annual Art & Community Fair on Saturday, September 29 in Gardena. The event brought together hundreds of families from the 43rd Congressional District cities of Gardena, Hawthorne, Inglewood, Los Angeles, and Torrance for a day of health screenings, performances, and family-friendly activities.  

NNPA Hosts National Black Parents’ Town Hall in Norfolk

Panelists for the event, where questions and comments were discussed regarding the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), were Linda Langley Davis, the director of educational services for Hampton Roads, Inc.; Fred Smoot, a former Washington Redskins cornerback and motivational speaker; Rev. Dr. Kirk T. Houston, the founder and pastor of Gethsemane Community Fellowship Church; and Deidre Love, the executive director of the nonprofit Teens with a Purpose.

A Clinic to Cultivate the Whole Student Athlete

Connective, Inc., in partnership with The RightWay Foundation, will lead a student athlete event that will comprise of an interactive life skills workshop and basketball clinic. The clinic will attract youth from the  South Los Angeles area this Saturday from 10am-3pm on June 23rd, 2018 at the St. Andrews Recreation Center. Youth ages 15 and up will utilize critical skills to persevere through mental and physical exercises meant to build their capacity to overcome situations encountered in life and on the basketball court.

California Women: Keep California’s Breast Density Reporting Law in Place

According to the survey, findings show that 95% of respondents want the law to remain in place. Furthermore, nearly 75% know that dense breast tissue makes it more difficult to see cancer on a mammogram, and the vast majority of women with dense breast tissue had conversations about it, including the discussion of additional screening with their physicians.

Our Authors Study Club Celebrates 73 Years of African American History  

 The Los Angeles Branch of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, Inc., better known in Los Angeles as Our Authors Study Club, Inc. (OASC), celebrated 73 years of African American History on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at the Marina Del Rey Marriott Hotel in Marina del Rey, California. 

Delta Kappa Chapter Hosts Scholarship Luncheon

Delta Kappa Chapter of National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc. recently held its annual Scholarship Fundraiser and Luncheon at the Holiday Inn in Torrance, CA.   Dr. Anita Turner served as the Mistress of Ceremonies for the afternoon.   Brenadette Schoby, President of Delta Kappa Chapter, gave a welcome and greeted those in attendance.
