Issa Rae’s quick comment after five men were announced as Oscar nominees for best director was spur of the moment, but for many captured the lack of diversity among this year’s nominees.
California born businessman Clayton Banks was an excited teen going to visit his brother at his UCLA dorm, he says, when he first encountered racism. “I was walking along and a car came by and someone yelled the N-word. I was just so appalled. I freaked out. I mean,” he paused at the memory, “I was really flabbergasted.” After he processed the incident Banks says he realized, “It had nothing to do with me. It was their ignorance.”

I’ll do my best to try and paint a picture of film, digital and television producer Effie T. Brown, but it’s hard to do with just words. Brown is the reason Podcasts were invented, meaning that her tone often reveals what she’s really saying versus what you just heard her say.
The black-tie affair honored African American, trailblazing men and women whose personal and professional accomplishments have positively impacted the perception and image of the Black LGBTQ+ community. The facts don’t lie but it’s only been a recent shift that Hollywood brass has started to really listen. Insiders know the drill. Black has been on trend many times and then it fizzled out as if it never existed at all. Halle Berry spoke her truth; so to speak when former Teen Vogue editor-in-chief Elaine Welteroth interviewed her about her Oscar win (2002 win for “Monster’s Ball”).
“Look, my mother has an amazing story from where she came, and she’s always been more of a forefront person. A lot of people tend to think this woman built this company and she made her son the CEO, but they don’t realize how long I’ve been at the company and that it was really a joint effort. They tend to think it’s a traditional family business. But my mother is very good at giving me credit. She did it when we were in Omaha.”
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Michael Jackson estate has sent a letter to the U.K.’s Channel 4 warning that a documentary on two men who accuse the singer of molesting them as boys violates the network’s programming guidelines. The letter written by estate attorney Howard Weitzman and released Monday to The Associated Press states that “Leaving Neverland,” set to air in early March, makes no attempt at getting a response to the accusers from Jackson’s estate, family, friends or others who have defended his reputation as required by the channel’s standards for factual programming and basic journalistic ethics. The letter
You may not know his name but it’s a good chance that you know actor Michael Beasley by his face, and it’s a nice face even when he has three teardrops painted under his eye, a mark charting the number of people that he murdered. In real life, Beasley is a 6’3’’ lovable teddy bear.
“…in the era of #MeToo and #TimesUp, America’s embrace of “I believe the victims” has intensified. However, Michael Jackson’s family and ultra-loyal fan base, are having none of it.”

Many aspiring actors move to Los Angeles in hopes to find success. Some of them imagine themselves on red carpets, while others envision receiving their own Hollywood Walk Of Fame star. What happens when that illusion breaks and you have no idea what you should do? That’s the question legendary actor Bill Duke answered in his new book “Bill Duke: 40 Years On Screen and Behind The Camera.”
