For the past three months, Trevon and Nyah Avan, the young adult children of murdered Bank of America executive Michelle Avan have begun to walk the painful path of living the rest of their lives without their beloved mother.  Avan’s life was tragically taken on August 3, 2021, when accused murderer and ex-boyfriend Anthony Duwayne Turner entered her Reseda home and beat her to death.

Judge Denies Challenge to Rachel Rossi’s Ballot Designation as ‘Public Defender’ in Race for L.A. District Attorney

Tuesday, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mitchell L. Beckloff ruled that Rachel Rossi lawfully listed “Public Defender, Federal’ as her ballot designation in her campaign for Los Angeles County District Attorney.  Last week, Rossi was made aware by George Gascon’s campaign that they were leading a challenge to her ballot designation filed for the March 3rd Presidential Primary election. Gascon, the former San Francisco District Attorney, is also running for Los Angeles County District Attorney. 

Black Lives Matter Founder Holds Jail Reform Event in Pasadena

Activist, public speaker, co-founder of Black Lives Matter Global Network and Chair of Reform L.A. Jails Patrisse Cullors, joined by four candidates for L.A. County District Attorney, held a panel in Pasadena Saturday, November 9 aimed at raising awareness around mass incarceration and mental illness. During the festive evening event, the panelists/ candidates talked about the importance of redirecting the mentally ill from jail to treatment. Their mission statement has been summed up in the social media hashtags: #REFORMLAJAILS #CARENOTCAGES #CARINGISEASY.
