Last football season was difficult for any fan of the USC Trojans or the UCLA Bruins. After two successful seasons, the Trojan hit a lull and finished with a middling 5-7 overall record. The Bruins struggled as they transitioned to Chip Kelly being at the helm, only securing three wins.

Student Athlete of the Week: Ameer Muhammad

Senior track and field standout Ameer Muhammad helped the Crenshaw boys track and field team qualify for the State championship. He ran a leg for the 4×100 relay squad who had been successful throughout track season. Muhammad competed in the 100m dash, the 200m dash, and the 4x100m during the CIF State championship. 

The Rams and Nike Host High School Football Tournament

High school football teams throughout the Southland united at El Camino College to clash in the 11-ON Passing Tournament and Lineman Competition, hosted by the Rams and Nike. The event allowed the prep athletes exposure and extra practice but also allowed them to commune with other teams. Former NFL star and L.A. Rams Community Affairs and Engagement Specialist Johnathan Franklin facilitated the competitions and shared his wisdom with the athletes. Chargers Renovate Watts/Willowbrook Boys and Girls Club

The Los Angeles Chargers helped create an athletic field and teen resource center at the Boys and Girls Club Watts/Willowbrook Clubhouse. Franchise owner Dean Spanos, wide receiver Travis Benjamin, and defensive tackle Justin Jones visited the Boys and Girls Club for a ribbon cutting ceremony of the new facilities.

L.A. Chargers Choose Defense in the 2019 NFL Draft

To add on to their competitive momentum from last season, the Los Angeles Chargers acquired five defensive players and two players on offense in the 2019 NFL Draft. Their draft class includes three linemen, two linebackers, one quarterback and one safety.
