Taelor Bakewell represents a strong voice for the Black community as the newly commissioned board member for the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA). Bakewell pulls strength and motivation from her loved ones and incorporates that support into bigger strides for improvement within the City of Los Angeles. Commissioner Bakewell was appointed to HACLA’s Board on May 25, 2021.

discover in our own backyards, to what we can learn from scientists and environmental studies
professionals.
Black Lineworker Scholarship Names Recipients including Local Minority Students Thirty high school seniors in Southern California Edison’s service area have been named 2021 Edison Scholars and will be awarded $1.2 million in scholarships by Edison International to pursue science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) studies.
EI administrators say the scholarship is being offered in partnership with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 47, which also distributes funding for the program.
Edison, the owner of Max Out, a demolition, site work, grading, asphalt and concrete paving and masonry company, had been successful in obtaining medium-sized contracts and being a subcontractor. With Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LA Metro), Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) and Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) having an excess of $200 billion in construction projects in the works, Edison’s goal was to elevate his business to the next level by subcontracting with a prime contractor on a major infrastructure project.
The Rosemead-based parent company of Southern California Edison will award $40,000 scholarships, paid over four years, to 30 scholars enrolled in a four-year accredited U.S. college or university after high school graduation.
