Councilmember Curren Price Provides $5.5 Million to 100 Organizations Across the New Ninth District and Beyond!

Councilmember Curren Price (D-9th District) hosted a press conference to honor different organizations responsible for the growth in the ninth district and surrounding areas in Los Angeles. On Thursday, April 21, Price presented over 100 checks totaling over $5 million to local businesses and organizations that earned the acknowledgment and appreciation.   

CITY COUNCIL APPROVES LA’S FIRST PARTICIPATORY BUDGETING PLAN $8.5 million to go to nine LA neighborhoods

The Los Angeles City Council unanimously approved a plan from the Civil + Human Rights and Equity Department (LA Civil Rights) to roll out the city’s first participatory budgeting pilot program. The Los Angeles Reforms for Equity and Public Acknowledgement of Institutional Racism, or LA REPAIR, will give nine communities impacted by high rates of poverty, COVID-19, pollution and other factors the decision-making power to allocate more than $8.5 million in city funds. 

Black Lines Matter: The Fight Over Redistricting Lines in Los Angeles

: Council Districts (CDs) 8, 9 and 10 saw minimal changes in the final draft map to be submitted to the Los Angeles City Council by the Redistricting Commission. The adopted draft map, which passed by a 15-6 vote, featured adjustments to the three CDs with the city’s highest numbers of voting age African Americans. Most notably, Exposition Park is now located in CD 8.

City Council Approves Curren Price Motion for $5 Million to Help South LA Recover from Bomb Squad Blast

The Los Angeles City Council today passed a motion introduced by Councilman Curren Price to identify $5 million in funding — some of which would come from the Los Angeles Police Department budget — to help a South Los Angeles neighborhood recover from a massive explosion set off by an LAPD bomb squad error that injured 17 people and forced many residents from their homes.

Garcetti stressed the co-ownership of protection from both local legislation and the community they represent. He shared the progress of the Community Safety Partnership Bureau in the Los Angeles Police Department. “This bureau makes CSP both a program and a philosophy,” Mayor Garcetti stated. The program cultivated a set of procedures that hold the body of the organization accountable to maintaining a civil approach to policing.

His last exhibit is a display of legacy and contemporary stand up African-American comedians, producers, writers, publicists and venue owners.  The exhibition honors past African American stand-up comedians and features current African American comedians of achievement.
