Jokes on Police Use of Force are no Laughing Matter  

Prior to the death of Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, Michael Brown, Sandra Bland, Freddie Gray, Wakeshia Wilson, and Philando Castile, police brutality had been a heavy topic for Black America, dating back to historical events like the ‘1992 L.A. Uprising,’ the police beating of Rodney King, and the death of LaTasha Harlins.

First Ladies Health Day Marks Another Successful Event

Thirty churches in the Los Angeles area participated in the 6th Annual Walgreens-sponsored First Ladies Health Day on March 26. During the event, free health tests and medical screenings were provided for the entire family to address preventative illnesses, which disproportionately affect African Americans and Hispanics. Medical healthcare partners from Walgreens and more than 50 health organizations provided medical advice and counseling, as well as screenings for hypertension, HIV/AIDS, glucose, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity and certain forms of cancer.   A passport to wellness is promised at the Community Health Fair sponsored by Ward AME Church.
