“Building Justice,” a film by Ultan Guilfoyle about architect Frank Gehry’s work with students studying the inhumanity of prison design, and “The Real Background Check,” an animated short by ANWOL co-director Tiffany Johnson, will also make their debuts at the film festival.

Sustaining Righteous Community Outrage

Righteous outrage must be sustainable.it is necessary to bring about the political pressure crucial for actual long range change.  Of course, ultimately, it is the responsibility of the Black community itself to forge its own future which requires new mindsets and most important, new behavior. Developing sustainable righteous outrage is only one of other important tasks that collectively, we must undertake as part of a self-determined Black agenda.

Former Foster Youth to Present Foster Care Platform in D.C.

In D.C., Deane said she will be pushing for: placing foster kids in homes instead of group homes, fighting for the inclusion of Teens in AMBER ALERTS (Even if they are runaways, they are still minors. Someone needs to search for them, said Deane) and stronger policies, ie. Accountability, ensuring all foster parents are qualified and trained.

Prior to former Assemblyman Sebastian Ridley-Thomas’ resignation in December 2017, he spent the past four years serving the South Los Angeles community by taking on the state’s homelessness crisis, mental health and environmental issues. Although he is no longer serving in the assembly, Ridley-Thomas continues to be a voice and face of the community. Bishop C. Garnett Henning, Spiritual and Social Justice Giant, Passes Away

Spiritual giant and champion for social justice are frequently used to describe the Right Rev. Cornal Garnett Henning, Sr. Known locally and internationally as a passionate religious leader and human rights advocate, Bishop Henning passed in Los Angeles on May 15. His celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday, May 23, at 11 a.m., at First AME Church, 2270 S. Harvard Blvd. in Los Angeles. Henning’s legacy in L.A. includes serving as pastor of Ward AME Church from 1972 to 1980 where he moved the ministry beyond the church walls to establish multiple community outreach and social service

Last month, authorities rushed to the scene after receiving 911 calls that a school shooting was taking place at Douglas High School in Florida. The incident left 17 people dead and poised the rest of the U.S. to once again debate gun control laws and look to the Trump Administration for answers.
