Sausedo Receives Presidential Award at 88th St. Temple COGIC

Robert M. Sausedo, a minister at 88th Street Temple  and president of Community Build, Inc. was awarded the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award on Sept. 24 by Chief Apostle Dr. Kenneth W. Curry, certifying agent for the Presidential Volunteer Service Award.

Providing A Pathway for Next Generation of Black Pilots

Robert Sausedo, president of the South L.A. nonprofit organization Community Build, Inc., directs over a dozen programs that provide assistance and support services for youth and young adults.  Willie Daniels is the president of Shades of Blue, a nonprofit organization that trains youth for careers in aviation.  Together, the two expanded Shades of Blue’s reach and number of aviation workshops.

Barbara Morrison: Still a Performer at the Center of Hearts

One year after revered songstress, vocal teacher and community activist Barbara Morrison’s passing at age 72, her legacy is humming along in full swing. The City of Los Angeles has renamed the corner of 43rd Street and Degnan (where the Barbara Morrison Performing Arts Center has stood for the past 14 years) “Barbara Morrison Square.” It was dedicated on the singer’s birthday last year, September 10, which also marked the date of the First Annual Barbara Morrison Jazz and Blues Festival.

Staying in the Black: Millionaires in Training

After dropping 30% during the pandemic, Black businesses are making a comeback. A recent study from the University of California, Santa Cruz cited the number of Black small-business owners rose 28% higher in the third quarter of 2021 in comparison to pre-pandemic times. 

Community Build Supports PlayLA Youth and Adaptive Sports Launch

Community Build, Inc. partnered with PlayLA on Saturday, Nov. 6 in Algin Sutton Park to launch the City’s Youth and Adaptive Sports Program.  Children and young adults enjoyed a day of sports adapted fun to meet varying mental and physical abilities and had the opportunity to meet some of L.A.’s Olympic and Paralympic athletes.  Community Build donated 100 food boxes and sponsored swimwear for Inclusion Matters’ aquatics programs.

SALUTE TO AFRICAN AMERICAN NONPROFITS

Several South Los Angeles nonprofits and their top executives were recognized at the Los Angeles Business Journal’s annual Nonprofit and Corporate Citizenship Awards. The awards honor individual organizations and leaders whose focus is to improve the communities they serve.  Finalists and winners and were recognized during the L.A. Business Journal virtual event in early May.

COMMUNITY BUILD, INC. OFFERS HOPE AND EMPLOYMENT

When the 2020 Census count is finally tallied, states across the nation will receive their proportionate share of government funding for essential social programs and services for the next decade.  For three ex-felons, the grassroots work of going door-to-door checking for completed Census forms, provided immediate financial relief and an opportunity to help their community.

For years, grassroots organizations have been protesting against the Los Angeles County District Attorney (D.A.) and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s department for their actions or inactions.
But what if the D.A. and the Sheriff aren’t where the real problem lies?
In order to find the source of the problem, you’ve got to find the source and required uses for funding these two departments.
