Some observers believe the calls for racial justice after the murder of George Floyd and the global awareness of the Black Lives Matter movement have contributed mightily to the rise in enrollment at HBCUs.

I will not lie. There was an audible gasp of surprise heard inside the virtual pressroom when it was clear that Mr. Boseman did not win for his mesmerizing performance in “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.” Boseman did win the SAG Award, the Critic’s Choice Award, and a Golden Globe, to name a few.

Now we have fires to deal with! Who would have every thought we would experience so much chaos in one year? In January we learned about the death of Kobe Bryant, his daughter, and the rest of the passengers on the small private plane. Our hearts were full of sorrow in such disbelief. In February, we publicly experienced another Black man killed in cold blood by the name of Ahmaud Arbery. March was terrifying as we were officially introduced to COVID-19, the pandemic we all have been living with for months now, and an innocent woman by the name of Breonna Taylor was murdered in her own bed by police officers. 

Lupita Nyong’o says Chadwick Boseman’s ‘power lives on’

Lupita Nyong’o has written a stirring tribute to her late “Black Panther” co-star Chadwick Boseman, calling him a man whose power will “reverberate for generations.”

“I write these words from a place of hopelessness, to honor a man who had great hope,” the actress writes in the message posted to her social media accounts Tuesday, 11 days after Boseman’s death from colon cancer at age 43. “The news of his passing is a punch to my gut every morning.”
