Films With A Purpose (FWAP) moves the films of three emerging directors to the spotlight. In addition, FWAP
has scheduled a week of live screenings to share viewing of the films on the big screen daily to create
awareness, impact, and inspiration for Southern California audiences.
LA youth joins 20 Black male directors from America, Canada, and Cameroon to share films with a global online audience. BHERC curated this diverse selection of movies from a vast field of talented storytellers to discover exciting topics.
The Black Hollywood Education and Resource Center (BHERC) is now accepting submissions for the 2nd Annual BHERC Faith-Based & Inspirational Film Festival (FBIFF). The Festival is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 18 through Sunday, Sept. 26, and will be a hybrid in-person and online event following all public health regulations active. BHERC will share details about the Festival’s venue footprint and in-person event structure in the future. The organization aims to produce a safe and accessible film festival that meets COVID safety guidelines. The deadline for submissions is August 15, 2021. Fresh from the success of the online debut of the 27th annual “Sistas Are Doin’ It for Themselves” film festival in May, BHERC is bringing back the popular and longstanding Indie film festival on its new streaming service BHERC TV.

The Black Hollywood Education and Resource Center (BHERC) continued its “Operation Love” outreach April 19, with a drive to collect toilet paper for the Union Rescue Mission (URM). Located on skid row in downtown L.A., URM works directly with homeless individuals through its life-transforming ministry focused on the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. BHERC is a nonprofit, public benefit organization designed to advocate, educate, research, develop, and preserve the history and future of Black images in film and television. The “Operation Love” effort was planned to meet a dire, essential, and practical need during the COVID-19 pandemic. BHERC
The Black Barbershop Health Outreach Program (BBHOP) continues to distribute free face-masks and hand sanitizers to L.A.–area senior citizens as part of its effort to combat the spread of the COVID-19 disease among this vulnerable group. On April 9, Dr. Bill Releford, BBHOP founder, and organization members provided more than 700 masks and sanitizers to the Inglewood Senior Citizen Center. The items were dispersed to 500+ seniors who regularly receive lunch deliveries from the center. According to Human Services Superintendent Thomas Uwal, their clients were appreciative because they have been prohibited from attending the center under the governor’s social distancing

“Operation Love” meals and gift baskets were delivered to seniors including retired nurses, caregivers and other that have labored in the community for many years among others.
