Super Middleweight Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin is working himself up the ranks for potential big time fights.

Peter “Kid chocolate” Quillin is the fighter that everyone in the boxing world is now taking most interest in. He is a Chicago native who grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan (the hometown of Floyd Mayweather Jr.), but who now proudly calls New York City his home. He has garnered plenty of attention for his habit of throwing chocolate candy kisses to the crowd after his victories, but he’s also struck fear into his opponents for knocking people out with frightening efficiency.
With a ring record of 25-0 with 19 knockouts, Quillin got talent and charisma that has led many to call him one of the top prospects in the fight game today, a praise that he hopes to live up to. He’s been a boxer since he was seven years of age, and he quickly made a name for himself locally. He adopted the nickname “Kid chocolate” in honor of his father’s Cuban heritage and relocated to New York City in 2002. He had two stints in the New York Golden Gloves and turned professional in 2005 at the age of 21.
The love affair between the Big Apple and the new “Kid Chocolate” began the night of Quillin’s first pro fight when he stopped a kid named Anthony Hunter in the first round. His next five bouts all ended in the first round so in September of 2006 his team decided to step up the level of competition against 8-1 Brad Austin, who only made it to round two against the fast and furious attack of Quillin. This is a kid to be reckoned with indeed.
Quillin is one of the many prospects that under the promotional arm of Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions, so be on the lookout for him.
Sterling McPherson Promotions has announced a 10 event boxing series to held at the Riviera Hotel and Casino, beginning October 15 in Las Vegas, Nevada. McPherson is one of the most recognized individuals in the boxing business. He’s managed several world class fighters including former World Heavyweight Champions, “Iron” Mike Tyson, Frans Botha, Michael “Dynamite” Dokes, and former two time Middleweight Champion, Keith Holmes.
“I am excited about the partnership with the Riviera Hotel and Casino as the home of ‘Sterling Nights of Fights,’” McPherson said. “We are looking forward to delivering the best in exciting entertainment to our fans at ringside and to millions of viewers around the world.”
These bouts will be telecast on ESPN International with the “Colonel” Bob Sheridan doing the play by play announcing, and former World Heavyweight Champion James “Buster” Douglas doing the color commentary.
The World Light Heavyweight Championship will be on the line October 15 at the Staples Center when Champion Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins fights Chad Dawson. The fight will be telecast live on HBO pay per view.
