Bishop Ulmer Steps down, Events Set to Salute His Legacy

Bishop Kenneth C. Ulmer will conclude four decades as senior pastor and teacher of Faithful Central Bible Church on Sunday, February 19.  In recognition of his transformative ministry, the congregation will host a series of “Legacy of Champion” events, which will culminate in a tribute concert. The celebration began on Feb. 5 with the installation of the new senior pastor, the Rev. John-Paul C. Foster. The rejoicing continues on Sunday, Feb. 12, at 9 a.m., with Ulmer leading the worship in The Tabernacle, 321 N. Eucalyptus Avenue in Inglewood. Radha Botofasina’s New Album of Spirituals Soon Available on Vinyl

“The Spirituals, Vol. 2: Carry On,” a new release from Radha Botofasina, vocalist/pianist/harpist/composer and longtime collaborator of Alice Coltrane, will be available on vinyl March 1. The collection of spirituals in Botofasina’s singular, roots-based style meshes gospel sensibilities with contemporary and eastern influences to deliver potently unique renditions of such foundational songs as “Satan, We Gonna Tear Your Kingdom Down” and “Mary, Don’t You Weep.” The sonically revelatory album is a follow up to Botofasina’s similarly-themed 2009 release, “The Spirituals,” and each track is rooted in a Biblical story.

CD 8 Reimagine Grant Helps Bethel-LA CDC Expand Community Services

Youth, families and senior citizens will benefit from the $75,000 Reimagine Grant awarded to Bethel-LA Community Development Corporation by Council District 8. CD 8 Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson attended Bethel’s worship service on January 29 and presented Pastor Kelvin T. Calloway with the check, who announced that the funds will assist the nonprofit’s many programs such as its life skills training, career guidance initiatives and gang intervention efforts. “We commend Councilman Harris-Dawson for his visionary efforts and support of the charitable and non-profit organizations that we believe to be vital to the health, safety, and quality of life in CD 8,”

Manning Plans Homeless Prayer Vigil for Mayor Bass

Pastor Sherman D. Manning, founder of Yes We Can Worship Center (YWCWC), and the Baptist Ministers Conference of Los Angeles under the leadership of Pastor K.W. Tullos have called a National Homeless Prayer Vigil for L.A. Mayor Karen Bass. The vigil will be held on Friday, February 3, at 7 p.m., at YWCWC, 10306 Avalon Blvd. in Los Angeles.
