Brandon Harris Performs in VERDISSIMO! Plus! at First Presbyterian Church

On April 29 and 30, The Verdi Chorus’ 39th season will finish with “VERDISSIMO! Plus!” for two performances only at the First Presbyterian Church in Santa Monica. Led by Founding Artistic Director Anne Marie Ketchum, the Verdi Chorus is the only choral group in Southern California that focuses primarily on dramatic and diverse music for opera chorus. Countertenor Brandon Harris will be performing with the chorus and shared a little bit about performing in the concert and working with Ketchum.

Georgia Laster Association of Musicians Hosts Scholarship Competition

Talented high school vocalists and musicians are encouraged to participate in the 2023 Annual High School Music Scholarship Competition sponsored by the Georgia Laster Association of Musicians, Inc. (G.L.A.M., Inc.). Online applications are now available at www.glamincla.org/hsmsc, announced G.L.A.M. President Yolanda West, who added that the deadline to apply is May 31. “Young people sing or play instruments are invited to take part in this event.  We will present scholarship awards for $1,000, $750 and $500 to the top three winners,” said West. Simmons College to Create Jesse Jackson Center for Racial Justice

On the 55th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination, Simmons College of Kentucky announced a new $2 million initiative on racial justice. College President Kevin Cosby announced the gift from the Eula Mae and John Baugh Foundation during a service at St. Stephen Baptist Church in Louisville, Ky. The centerpiece of the initiative will be creation of The Reverend Jesse Louis Jackson Sr. Center for Racial Justice.
