On Saturday, May 27, the Children’s Ministry of the CME Southern California Region presented “A Talent Showcase Spectacular” where the young people performed at their very best!
The youth participants, who represented various CME churches, displayed creativity and skills while entertaining the audience with their array of talents. The outstanding event was held at Lewis Metropolitan CME Church in South Los Angeles.
SCR Youth President Gregory Smith opened the program by introducing the emcees, Brooklyn Weaver from Phillips Temple-Los Angeles and Fitzgerald Faulk from Hays Tabernacle-Los Angeles.
The children began with a praise song called, “This is the Day That The Lord has Made,” followed by a prayer, “Jesus be our Light” delivered by Ryan Washington of Curry Temple, Compton.

Scripture was read by Madison Brown from Warren Chapel, San Pedro and T’Ayra Cannon of Lewis Metropolitan-Los Angeles delivered a warm welcome.
Two uplifting melodies were rendered by the Voices of Hays Tabernacle Children’s Choir. The members included Kyra Spivey, Andrew Spivey, Sabastian Faulk, Fitzgerald Faulk, Hazel Rouzan, Malachi Rouzan, Aaron Welcome, and Andrew Welcome.
Me’Laia Mitchell from Phillips Temple sang a spirited praise song, followed by Savannah Wade from Amos Memorial-L.A. reading “The ABC Prayers.” Further captivating the crowd was the trombone solo by Chase Weaver and the keyboard melodies by Zaniyah-Marie Hobson and Xyeiir-Monae Hobson – two very talented sisters.
A’Laysia Winters from Curry Temple read an expressive prayer preceding the lunch with her siblings – brother A’Vonae Winters and little sister Ah’Mari Winters – shouting praises to the Lord. She was accompanied by drummer Jaylen Durley from Brown Temple-Santa Ana.
Another highlight was a musical selection and skit from the “Episodes of the Cosby Show” featuring a Michael Jackson dance. The performers were Joseph Benjamin, Asher Benjamin, Damien Wills, Jr., Kaelee Range, Kiah Morgan, Kameron Harrison, Devynn Tave, Daelyn Tave, Darrell Tave, and Caliyah Coleman of Greater Phillips CME Church-Compton.
The program closed with musical selections from the St. Paul Church – Bakersfield Children’s Choir. The young people sung from their hearts, with spiritual movements, singing, clapping, stumping, and praying to the Lord.
The Right Rev. Charley Hames Jr. is the presiding bishop of the SCR of the Ninth Episcopal District, Diana Winton is the SCR director, Carla Lockhart is the SCR chair, and the Rev. Travis Morris is the pastor of Lewis Metropolitan CME Church.
