Mike Watanabe, the founding leader and president of the Asian American Drug Abuse Program, passed away on Friday, Nov. 3, leaving a profound and enduring legacy that impacted the greater Los Angeles community. According to a spokesperson, “Mike’s legacy extends beyond mere statistics. He nurtured AADAP into a place of healing and growth, a safe haven for those in need. Richard Roundtree, Star of “Shaft,” Dies at 81

Richard Roundtree, the actor known and loved for his iconic portrayal of the first Black action hero, John Shaft, died on Tuesday at his Los Angeles home surrounded by his family. His longtime manager, Patrick McMinn, confirmed his death and said the cause was pancreatic cancer, a diagnosis Roundtree received two months ago. He was 81.

In Loving Memory of Alyce Joe Crump

Alyce Joe Crump passed away on August 25, closing out a lifetime of Christian service to the African Methodist Episcopal Church.  A fourth generation AME member, Alyce was also the proprietor of Vernon Escrow in Los Angeles for 40 years.
