Pastor Ticey Brown and the members of Mount Tabor Missionary Baptist Church will observe their 61st Anniversary with several spirit-filled events.

The celebration kicks-off on Sunday, Nov. 24, in the edifice located at 6614 S. Western Ave., in Los Angeles. The guests will be Pastor Darnell Manuel and the members of Carver Baptist Church at the 8 a.m. worship and the Rev. Joe Gates, pastor emeritus of Southern St. Paul Church, at the 11 a.m. service.

On Saturday, Nov. 30, at 4 p.m., an All-Male Revue is planned. The Mt. Tabor Mighty Male Chorus, Mt. Sinai Praise and Mime Ministry, the Furnance Jazz Band, guitarist David Grone, artist Yukon, the Rev. David Price, and Kae-Esó Pitchford and the Church Boys will participate. The donation is $20.

Three services will be held on Sunday, Dec. 1. At 8 a.m., Pastor Rikki Ferrell of Greater New Bethel Baptist Church will preach. Pastor Richard Williams of Victory Institutional Baptist Church will deliver the sermon at 11 a.m., and Pastor Darryl Barnes of Paradise Baptist Church will bring the message at the 3:45 p.m. worship.

Mt. Tabor was organized on June 29, 1958, with Edna Porter, John Phillips, George Brown and Marnesba T. Tackett playing key roles in the early church history. Over the years, the membership increased from 99 to more than 2,000 and Mt. Tabor established a range of ministries to provide spiritual guidance, outreach services and mentoring, both locally and internationally.

Brown has been the pastor since 2006, after serving nine years under the late Pastor E.E. Stafford. During his tenure, Mt. Tabor continues to make a positive impact on the South L.A. community and beyond through its Christian Education and digital media ministries.
