Excitement is building throughout L.A. as people anticipate the 17th Annual Taste of Soul Family Festival, set for Saturday, October 15, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., on Crenshaw Blvd., between Stocker St. and Obama Blvd.
Pie on the Flyy has been slicing up pizza in the City of Carson since 2019, only to expand across L.A. as one of the best Pizzerias in Los Angeles, California. Pie on the Flyy is looking to have a pop-up location at the Taste of Soul, one of the biggest one-day festivals in South L.A., on October 15.

Cakes by Chante bakery owner, Chante Bernard recounted the start of her journey to the holy matrimony of her parents, celebrated on September 8, 1973. They were showered with wedding gifts and among these presents, they would find a lime green Hamilton Beach cake mixer, a gift that would encompass a beautiful destiny.

Danny J. Bakewell, Sr., executive publisher and chairman of the Los Angeles Sentinel, has been appointed by Governor Gavin Newsom to the California Parks and Recreation Commission. Along with being the executive publisher and chairman of Bakewell Media, which owns the Los Angeles Sentinel and the Los Angeles Watts Times, Bakewell is the founder/creator of the Taste of Soul Family Festival, held annually on historic Crenshaw Boulevard in the heart of the Los Angeles African American community.
Perry Bennett wanted his entrepreneurial business to be the example of what is possible, he envisioned a relaxing environment in the community and created Perry’s Joint; a Black-owned eatery that represents the culture. Bennett wanted to make sure that this facility ignited other young minds to create their own business too. Perry’s Joint specializes in artisan sandwiches the storefront symbolizes the growth Bennet looks to see within the community.

The recipe holds generations of tweaks in the ingredients and shared experiences in the kitchen, giving the crust its extra flavor and distinction. In most cases, family recipes stay between relatives, but for Crustees’ owner, Sharon Washington, her first slice into the pie artisanship came from a collective pool of inspiration, and she’s been cooking with a sense of unity ever since.
