More than 120 families received a complete dinner at the annual Thanksgiving Giveaway sponsored by Bethany Baptist Church of West Los Angeles and the Baldwin Bethany Community Development Corporation.
The outreach event, held Nov. 18 on the church campus, was presented in collaboration with Dr. George McKenna and LAUSD District 1, which selected students and families from Coliseum, Audubon, Hillcrest, and Baldwin Hills schools to receive food boxes filled with turkey, dressing and other ingredients for a full holiday meal.
Several contributors donated items for the giveaway including City Council President Herb Wesson of District 10, Assemblymember Sebastian Ridley-Thomas of District 54, Los Angeles World Airports, Bright Star Charter School, UCLA Science Project and members of the Bethany Baptist Church of West Los Angeles.
Rod Miles, coordinator of Bethany’s Outreach Programs, said the church was pleased to help families enjoy Thanksgiving dinner and will continue its long history of sharing with others. “This program started with our organizing pastor, the Rev. Dr. Rocellia Johnson, who passed the baton to our senior pastor, the Rev. Dr. L.A. Kessee, who wants to move us to the next level in the area of outreach.”
