LAFC Celebrates A Major Milestone At New 22,000 Seat Soccer Stadium
The Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC), Los Angeles’ newest Major League Soccer team, entered a significant chapter in construction of its new soccer stadium recently when the Club poured the first of its concrete slabs, building the foundation for the new $350 million state-of-the-art facility, Banc of California Stadium.
After several weeks of demolition, excavation and digging, construction workers and Club owners gathered with over 130 concrete trucks to pour the initial 1,300 cubic yards of concrete needed to form the foundation, marking the beginning of the stadium’s next phase of construction.
“This is a major milestone for our team, fans and city,” said Tom Penn, LAFC President and co-owner. “This concrete pour is not only an important step towards the completion of the stadium, but also a significant accomplishment for the community that has helped make this dream possible.”
As part of the Club’s commitment to keeping fans and stakeholders involved throughout every step of the stadium development process, two LAFC Original supporters were selected through an online contest to assist with the concrete pour.
“LAFC exists because fans like our Originals have been with us since the very beginning,” said Penn. “We were thrilled to have them commemorate this day with us and reflect together on how far this Club has come.”
The event marked the beginning of many scheduled concrete pours that will occur over the course of the stadium’s construction. A total of 35,000 cubic yards will be needed to complete the project for the 2018 inaugural season. Recently, the Club proudly announced a multi-year partnership with United Soccer League’s Orange County Blues FC in order to further enhance professional player development. Earlier this year LAFC scored several tremendous victories for the Club, its fans and the people of Los Angeles including complete demolition of the Sports Arena, kicking off a historic groundbreaking ceremony with Club owners and supporters, announcing the official stadium naming rights, securing unanimous approval from the Los Angeles City Council on its Final Environmental Impact Report and proudly unveiling the new crest and team colors.
