A black South Carolina high school football player says racial comments from teammates and a photo of a noose in a text prompted him to transfer.
D’Angelo Knight was a standout running back last season at Pinewood Prep.
The 16-year-old Knight tells The Post and Courier of Charleston that he endured racial comments last season but did not tell the head coach, who is also black, because he simply wanted to play football.
But Knight said while attending a Florida State football camp last month, he sent a message to a team group chat joking he was transferring to nearby Fort Dorchester. He said one teammate replied with a picture of a noose.
Pinewood Prep headmaster Steve Mandell said the school takes the allegations seriously and is investigating.
