Retired NBA player Kobe Bryant and his wife, Vanessa, recently surprised and congratulated Mrs. Bettye Faye Nichols on her birthday.
Mrs. Nichols, public relations director for the Southern California Region of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church celebrated her birthday at the Staples Center. Thanks to her family, she had courtside seats watching the L.A. Lakers play against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
As a die-hard Laker fan, she sported a purple and gold pantsuit with a matching gold hat and boots. She was excited and overjoyed to see her favorite player, Kobe Bryant, as he was ending his season and preparing for retirement.
Without her knowledge, her grandson, Joshua Estrada, had arranged for Bettye to meet Bryant and his wife, Vanessa, after the game. Outside the locker room, Bettye was lovingly greeted with a big hug and kiss from the Bryants. Kobe and Vanessa said that Bettye looked great and they were honored to meet her.
Nichols responded, “What an awesome surprise! I am so excited and appreciate that Kobe and Vanessa took the time to greet me on my birthday.
“What a night! To God be the glory for all of the awesome things He has done throughout my life!”
