Mayor Eric Garcetti joined Los Angeles Police Department officials Saturday to mark the grand opening of the Metropolitan Division’s new home.
The Metro division, which previously shared space with Central Division in downtown Los Angeles, recently moved to the former Rampart Division offices at 2710 W. Temple St.
The building has been empty since 2008, when Rampart Division staff moved to new facilities, and was renovated for use by the Metro division. It now includes a garage with a fully functioning armory, according to Metro division’s Sgt. Kelly Muniz.
The Metro division includes SWAT, the K-9 unit and the mounted unit, and was recently expanded to more than 400 officers and civilian personnel. Metro division officers are deployed as support to police throughout the city.
