Park Hills Community Church, Reformed Church in America, will celebrate their 29th Annual Women’s Day on Sunday, May 15, at 11 a. m. The theme is “Women Embracing God’s Promises,” based on Philippians 4:6-9. The Rev. Lawrence K. Dove is the senior minister.
The guest preacher is the Rev. Judi Wortham-Sauls, first lady of Holman United Methodist Church, who has been on the move all her life. As part of a military family, she traveled throughout the United States, settling in Southern California where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology at UCLA.
She immediately began a career in telecommunications, holding increasingly responsibilities at A.T. & T. Rev. Judi describes her life journey dearest to her heart as her “walk with God.” She embarked on the Christian journey at the Center of Hope Congregation in Oakland, CA, in 1993. She later moved to Dayton, OH to pursue her ministerial studies at United Theological Seminary.
Ordained an Itinerant Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church, Rev. Wortham-Saul’s passion is working with women of color. She frequently presents at workshops and women’s conferences, and founded a women’s ministry, “Count It All Joy,” at Downs UMC in Oakland.
Dr. Hansonia Caldwell-Harriford, retired professor of music at California State University Dominguez Hills will direct the Women’s Day Chorus. She serves as minister of music at Knox Presbyterian Church in Ladera Heights and co-produced “Amen: The Life and Music of Jester Hairston” which won an award at the Diaspora Film Festival in 2015.
Pastor Dove, Minister Yolanda Dove, president of the Women’s Ministries, and Mrs. Mona Anderson, Women’s Day chair, invite the community to attend the worship and reception following the service.
