Dr. King was a wise and sensitive man
who preached equality throughout the land.
Whether from a jail cell or marching to desegregate
he was compelled by love not driven by hate.
Judging people by their character
not the color of their skin
to the ignorance of racism
he refused to give in.
He spoke words of tolerance
wherever was the need
and taught by example
through many unselfish deeds.
His was a dream of
parity for all
with the constant reminder
to be proud and stand tall.
Even in the face of danger
and at the risk of death
he fought to make changes
up to his very last breath.
He went to the mountain top
and sat at God’s right hand
who praised him for a job well done
as a thoughtful and caring man.
Although an assassin’s bullet
took his life away
his teachings of compassion and peace
are just as important today.
A man whose only prayer
for the human race
was that each do their part
to make the world a better place.
A person who through his actions
blazed new pathways to take
Dr. King should always be remembered
for helping us all great strides to make.
