Entertainment Executive Alex Avant teams with President Clinton to spread social awareness

Entertainment Executive Alex Avant has teamed up with the William J. Clinton Foundation Millennium Network to host a night with former President Bill Clinton on April 30th in Los Angeles at the Roosevelt Hotel Grand Ballroom.

This illustrious event will feature a special live performance by Will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas and its rumored that there will be other surprise performances along with special celebrity guest in attendance. Cocktail attire is required and because there is an open bar you have to be 21 years and older to attend (photo ID required).

After a successful kick-off in New York and San Francisco, the Millennium Network now stands at over 4,000 members strong and will continue to grow as they expand to new cities around the world. Admission for the event is $150 and it should be noted that any contributions to the Clinton Foundation are tax-deductable less the value of any goods and services received as applicable by law.

With more than a decade of experience in the music industry, Alex Avant has cultivated relationships throughout the music, film and TV industry. Alex worked as a consultant for Motown Records for four years in the A&R department where he set up key relationships with talent, senior executives and presidents/ CEO’s. He also spent two years in the international department traveling and representing artist for the company worldwide. Alex then spent one year as a consultant for both A&M and DreamWorks Records.

Currently, Alex Avant is executive producing and packaging a television show titled “SpitFire”. “SpitFire” is a flagship series hosted by Hip Hop pioneer Kool Moe Dee. Avant shared with the Sentinel that the television show is also slated to have a web component. The series brings together an array of high profile talent of diverse backgrounds talking about compelling subject matters ranging from music, fashion, sports, politics and entertainment.

The Avant family and the Clinton family have been a dear friends for many years dating back to when President Clinton was the governor of Arkansas. Alex Avant is the son of music business tycoon Clarence Avant. Clarence served as the Chairman of Motown Records and continues to be an inspiration and mentor to some of the most influential artist and executives. Quincy Jones has called Clarence Avant the ‘Godfather’ of our industry.

This past summer, Alex Avant had the honor of traveling with former President Clinton and his foundation to Africa and Mexico, with the mission to better the future for people in need. During the trip, Clinton laid out his plans on helping HIV/AIDS and Malaria victims. Everyday 6,000 people under the age of 25 are newly infected with HIV/AIDS. Every hour 40 children die of AIDS. Clinton’s quote cuts right to it when he mentioned “No One Should Die Before Their Time”.

The positive feedback Clinton and his foundation received during their visit to Africa and Mexico proved that many are excited that the Clinton Foundation is helping to resolve these issues and by reducing the cost of medicine. For example, in Dakar, Senegal Alex Avant and company sat under a tent listening to former President Clinton speak in conjunction with Geneva based UNITAID and their plans to lower the cost of anti-retroviral drugs, which once cost $600 and is now $60. Since 2006, treatment has increased from 10,000 to 200,000 with the help of the Clinton Foundation.

Clinton founded the William J Clinton foundation with a mission of empowering individuals and communities to take on some of the planet’s most urgent challenges. The Clinton Foundations seven initiatives deliver tangible results to tackle pressing issues including HIV/AIDS, global warming, economic opportunity worldwide, and the childhood obesity epidemic in the United States.

“Sometimes when I’m in my car driving and I pass by high schools I see these kids that are obese, I ask myself how did that happen,” Avant said. “Obesity is at a high with kids and young adults. Yes, genes play a huge role but so does the influence of the people you interact with on a day to day basis. The biggest influence on a ‘kid’ is another kid. With 70% of overweight children growing up to be overweight adults, we have to persuade the health care industry and practitioners to prevent, diagnose and treat obesity in their young patients now.”

This is the first time that the Millennium Network is coming to Los Angeles. The main objective of Millennium Network is to raise awareness but at the same time raise money because it is vital that the Clinton foundation continue to help individuals around the country and around the world.
