More than 200 formerly incarcerated men and their families attended the 7th Annual Lifer and Family Picnic sponsored by Ten Toes In (TTI) on Sept. 21, at Don Knabe Park in Cerritos.
TTI, a grassroots nonprofit that teaches incarcerated men to be in healthy relationships with romantic partners, provided games, refreshments, and music, which was enjoyed by both adults and children. Activities included a Kid’s Korner offering arts and crafts, musical chairs and and three-legged race for youngsters.

According to TTI Founder Darlene Burke, the organization offers a case management offering support and resources and holds a monthly Mentorship Support Meeting for men in the program.
“The majority of these men are serving life sentences in prison, but once they’re released from prison, TTI supports them in adjusting to this new phase of life. Ten Toes In is proud of its 97% success rate of the men not returning to jail or prison,” Burke said
“This picnic is designed to celebrate the freedom and accomplishments. Ten Toes In believes that a healthy family creates a safe and productive community,” she added.
