The congregation of New Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate the 13th Pastoral Anniversary and Birthday Celebration for the Rev. Dr. Sonja R. Dawson on Sunday, January 28, at 10:30 a.m. followed by special congratulatory reception.
The theme this year is “A Pastor Leading by God’s Grace” based on Isaiah 41:10. The guest speaker is Bishop Sherman Gordon, founding pastor of Family of Faith Christian Center in Long Beach.

For 13 years, Pastor Dawson has led New Mt. Calvary with a spirit of humility and grace, said a spokesperson. Also, she is a highly sought-after speaker, both locally and nationally, for conferences, workshops, revivals, and seminars. In addition, she has led New Mt. Calvary’s expansive growth in membership, ministries, technology, community development, and international missionary work in Belize and Haiti.
Most recently, Pastor Dawson was honored with the Martin Luther King Jr. Living Legend Award alongside Pastor Melvin V. Wade, Jr. Pastor William Epps, and Pastor Dwight Radcliff at The View Church of Menifee, CA under the leadership of Pastor Gregory Perkins. Additionally, Pastor Dawson continues to mentor women in ministry as founding director of Sisters in Ministry Inc., a philanthropic parachurch organization that provides ministerial coaching and development to women in ministry.
Even more, Dr. Dawson not only is a leader in the faith community, but also civic community as a retired deputy city attorney for the City of Los Angeles and has received numerous awards and accolades for her groundbreaking work in the area of human trafficking and prostitution diversion.
