The holidays are a time of excitement and wonder. The eyes of little children light up as they imagine the magic of this time of year. However, for adults, it can represent so many different things depending on their experiences and memories.
Although some memories are very difficult to erase or forget, we can try to establish new positive memories that override many of the negativities of the past. When it comes to our children, we can help create memories now that will stay with them for years to come. Why not expose them to a magical winter wonderland?
Many organizations plan various activities during the holidays to bring joy to their lives. Forgiving For Living, Inc., (FFL) a nonprofit started by my family in 1999, enjoys partnering with other organizations to help provide presents and activities for the whole family during this time of year. On Dec. 9, Forgiving For Living is proud to support the “2023 Winter Wonderland” from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m, at The Beehive in South Los Angeles.
This activity is brought to you by Advancing the Seed, the California Conservation Corp, TDD Supportive Living, Inc., SoLa Impact and The Beehive, Suffolk Construction, LA Metro, Tablet Mobile, Snap, Inc., and The Los Angeles Mission.
There will be free boxes of food for families, toys, books, free hair braiding, resource tables, and much more. Moreover, the event is not just about festive fun, but it is also a platform for local families to access valuable resources. The resource tables will offer guidance and support regarding a variety of information to help families. This year’s Winter Wonderland stands as a beacon of hope and joy, embodying the true spirit of the holiday season. It is a reminder that together, we can create moments of happiness and lasting memories for all who attend.
If you are not able to participate in the Winter Wonderland, you can still touch the lives of those around you by opening your home or even neighborhood and inviting the local children and their families to come and just fellowship with one another. You can provide a potluck with punch and cookies. The true meaning of the season is not about having to spend a lot of money, but rather sharing and having a spirit of love and hospitality.
Henry David Thoreau said, “The way you spend Christmas is far more important than how much (you spend on Christmas).” The holidays are about the heart and caring for others. When we put others before ourselves and our own needs, it lets them know they are important and that we care. Remember, people do not care how much we know until they know how much we care. Now more than ever is the time to exhibit brotherly love and compassion.
As we countdown to this joyous event, all are invited to come and celebrate the holidays in the Winter Wonderland. No matter what you may be going through and experiencing, we can let our hair down, forget our troubles, and just be grateful for the blessings we have in our lives. There are still people who care in this world andare just waiting to meet you. Happy Holidays!
